Selena Marshall is the AHSOR (Aboriginal Head Start On Reserve) Programming Coordinator for Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey.
Selena has been part of the Education system at the Eskasoni Ksite’taqnk Daycare - her studies include Early Years Development from Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies, and her Early Childhood Education from NSCC.
Prior to working with MK, Selena was Early Childhood Educator at Ksite’taqnk Daycare in Eskasoni.
Selena is from Eskasoni and is the mother of two amazing boys Ekkian and Ma’lkm.
The reason why I was inspired in working with young children was because of my
son Ma’lkm and my mom (who was also an ECE). As a Autistic mom - my son has become one of my biggest inspirations and I wanted to learn and witness the evolution of a child’s understanding, observing their achievements and supporting them through challenges. This allowed me to combine my love for Early Years and the caring environment where each child would feel valued.
In her spare time, Selena enjoys spending time with her children and partner Noel Frank (ice fishing has become one of our favourite pastimes), she also loves travelling, going to the movies, spending time with friends and baking baked goods.
“Most of what children need to learn during their early childhood years cannot be taught: it’s discovered through play” - Ruth Wilson
