Bob brings to Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey (MK) 40+ years of background in math education. Thirty-seven of these have been as a high school math teacher, teaching all courses from careers math to calculus and the International Baccalaureate Program. While a math department head Bob created a local developed math curriculum, which was adopted province-wide.
As an adherent to the principle of life-long learning Bob has both attended and presented at local, provincial, national and international math conferences.
He works with teachers, principals and directors in both community and provincial schools. Through a cooperative team approach this support is realized through coaching, regular professional development and liaising with MK’s provincial partners to keep math teachers up to date with the most recent developments.
“Teachers matter more to student achievement than any other aspect of schooling.” (Rand.Org) With this sentiment being recognized by many, and a mantra of Bob’s, our numeracy objective is to help our teacher to constantly improve both their competency and confidence in this subject area. The beneficiary of this philosophy will be our students and their future.
