Janean Marshall is the Student Services Consultant with Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey since 2012. Janean currently possesses an BA (CBU), BEd. (STXU), MEd. in Leadership and administration also fromSTXU and an MEd. in supporting diverse learners with MSVU. In addition to being certified in a variety of Autism related programs such as PEERS, PECS, TEACCH, STAR.

She was born in Massachusetts and currently resides in Eskasoni First Nation with her husband Tex and 3 sons. Being of Italian and Mi’kmaq descent Family, community, language and connection is extremely important to Janean. She has been in education for over 18 years, beginning her career as aJr High Teacher at Eskasoni Elementary and Middle School. In 2012 she joined Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey as the Student Services Consultant. She is also a part time professor for Saint FrancisXavier University in the area of social justice and inclusive leadership.

Over the past 6 years, Janean has worked with Breathing Space’s Blair Abbass, Jenny Keirstead andCatherine Rahey to bring Yoga to the MK family of schools and communities. Presently there are over40 teachers that have completed their 200Hr YTT (Yoga Teacher Training). Janean herself is a Yogi with over 500 hours of training.

In terms of hobbies and interests she loves to sew and has created a small sewing company calledSew Bears as a tribute to giving back to communities for salites, school fundraisers. Sew Bears was a name her children created as she is the mother to her three Muin or bear clan children.
