2022 Indigenous Youth Trades Fair

December 2, 2022

Our annual Trades Fair was back to full capacity this year and we had a very engaged group of students in attendance.

On Sunday evening we held our banquet dinner. Students had an opportunity to sit with trades people and ask them questions about their field of work. On Monday morning, 35 students went to the Trades Hall to take part in hands on sessions in the construction trades, while the other 35 went to the MainlandNova Scotia Building Trades centre where they participated in Skills Canada workshops in the morning and different construction trades in the afternoon.

During the evening, the students took part in different cultural workshops such as ji’kmaqn making, beading, storytelling, or ornament making.

The groups switched venues on Tuesday so that all students had a chance to experience a variety of activities. Aside from a little weather trouble on the way home and the causeway being closed to busses, the event was the best one yet! We love having this event each year and couldn’t do it without the support of our sponsors; Skills Canada, Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, and Native Council of Nova Scotia.
