Mathematics

Bob Crane, Numeracy Consultant, purchased Mathology Little Books, and Math Activity Kits for teachers who support Mi’kmaq students in public schools in AVRCE.  A PLC was held this month in order to learn more about the resources. Kyla Bernard, Elementary Numeracy Consultant, worked on the development of the resources and was able to provide professional development to teachers who work with students in grade 1 and grade 2 resource.

On the 15th of October Kyla Bernard also did a session with Bachelor of Education students at STFX on one of our MK developed resources called Aliet Discovers her Numbers.

Post Secondary

At the end of October, a preparation training conference was held for GED participants at the Hospitality Centre in Debert. The event started in the afternoon on Wednesday October 27th and went until Friday at lunch time. The participants included students from Paqtnkek and Eskasoni, along with their teachers.

They had an opportunity to do a goal setting workshop with Nancy MacLeod and make medicine pouches during their first day of the conference.  Thursday morning they listened to Lottie Johnson tell her story and then went on to do some training and practice tests ahead of taking their GED on Thursday afternoon and evening.

On Thursday evening they played Waltes with Madeline Poulette. Friday morning was spent evaluating the session and wrapping up the event.

Our students had some success with their testing and students passed some of their tests. It was a great learning experience for everyone involved.

Office Fun!

We always love celebrating holidays at MK. This month we enjoyed having our "Trick or Trunk" where we provide treats to the Membertou Daycare. We sure love seeing the little ones every year!
