What is your name, age, school, and what community are you from?
My name is Helen Stevens. I’m 18 years old attending Allison Bernard Memorial High School and I am from Eskasoni First Nation.
What clubs, teams, or groups are you involved in at school, and after-school?
I was a part of the Interact group and the Girls Basketball team.
What’s your favourite subject in school?
My favourite subject in school is Biology.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?
It would be Greece because I love Mamma Mia and it's so beautiful there.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I love to hang out with my friends, go on adventures, and play sports.
What are your plans for when you graduate, and why?
After I graduate, my plan is to attend Cape Breton University for my bachelors of Arts in psychology. My ultimate goal after that is to do my Master’s in Speech Pathology at Dal to become a speech pathologist.
What do you see yourself doing ten years from now?
In the ten years, I see myself working as a speech pathologist, making a difference in the lives of people who need that guidance and support with communication.
Do you have a role model? If so, who? And why?
Yes, My role model is my Mom. She is the most loving, caring, and hardworking person I know and goes above and beyond for everyone. She is also my biggest supporter and has always been there for me.
What is your best memory from your high school years?
My favourite memory through the years was the basketball home games, even though we weren’t the best, everyone still came and cheered us on and that made It was so funny and hype, a very memorable part of high school. Especially being able to play with my best friends all through.
What is the best thing about your school?
The best thing about my school is how supportive the teachers and staff are. Their support and sense of humor made learning and going to school fun.
Who has made an impact on you?
My friends and family have had a big impact on my life. They have always been there for me, and encouraged me to do my best.
Is there something you'd like to see in your school or community that isn't there now?
It would be cool if the school offered job shadowing opportunities, so that students get a reality of a job they might want to pursue.
