2025 Graduate Interview - Joel Francis

What is your name, age, school, and what community are you from?

 My name is Joel Francis, I am 18 years of age from Sipeknekatik Community.

What clubs, teams, or groups are you involved in at school, and after-school?

I’ve been a part of two-eyed seeing since grade 6.

What’s your favourite subject in school?

 Math is my favorite subject in school.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?

I would go back to Greece again because of the history and educational tours about our past.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I like to game out.

What are your plans for when you graduate, and why?

 I plan on going in to trades, because i can use it in the future to help build our community.

What do you see yourself doing ten years from now?

I see myself finishing schooling in trades and looking for employment.

Do you have a role model? If so, who? And why?

My Role model is my Second Cousin Duma Francis he was in plumbing when i was younger, and now he works for O&M on big rigs i want to follow in his footsteps because he makes it look easy and fun.

What is your best memory from your high school years?

My best memory in my high school years would be my grad trip to Greece.

What is the best thing about your school?

The best thing about my school is it’s a part of my community and culture.

Who has made an impact on you?

 My Mother has made the biggest impact on my life because she’s always pushed me to do things i wouldn’t have, and she’s been my number one supporter all my life.

Is there something you'd like to see in your school or community that isn't there now?

A hockey rink, I think where our community is a big hockey community we should have a rink for our future skaters and hockey players.

Do you have any words of advice, a personal favourite quote, or a thank-you?

I would like to say thank you to all my teachers whom taught me through out the years and my Mother as I would not be graduating today if it wasn’t for either of them. I also want to Thank the Education Dept for always being there for us students.
