What is your name, what school do you attend, and what community are you from?
Bethany Denny, I attend Alison Bernard memorial high school. I’m from Eskasoni.
What clubs, teams, or groups are you involved in at school, and after-school?
I’m involved in the GSA group, and I go to art and chill on Fridays.
What’s your favourite subject in school?
My favourite subject is Art. I love painting in the art room. I also really enjoyed Global politics and English.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?
I would go to a city in Italy, Like Rome, Florence, or Venice.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to paint, play video games, read and watch TV shows.
What are your plans for when you graduate, and why?
My plans are to move to Halifax and go to school at NSCAD. I want to meet new people and continue going to school.
What do you see yourself doing ten years from now?
In ten years, I see myself being a muralist and maybe working as an art teacher or traveling to teach and learn in different places in the world.
Do you have a role model? If so, who? And why?
My role models are all of my cousins. Jay denny, Nita denny and my sister Dionne. They’re all so strong and so supportive of me.
What is your best memory from your high school years?
My best memory is skipping all of my classes to paint in Lauren’s class all day. i'm lucky my teachers trust me and they give me the freedom to do what i enjoy.
What is the best thing about your school?
The best thing is definitely how supportive Newell and the staff is. This school is so dedicated to our culture and our teachings. I see how committed Newell and our staff is to helping us. Even being able to express myself as a two spirit lesbian. I felt accepted at this school.
Who has made an impact on you?
Lauren has definitely been a really good teacher. Lauren dressing goth everyday made me feel less alone in my style. She’s always supported my work and given me opportunities to show my art.
