Eskasoni School Board Schools kicked off 2026 with their first Traditional Tuesday, celebrating National Ribbon Skirt Day and the beauty of our ribbon skirts!

As part of the Phys Ed curriculum, Mrs. Phiefer wanted to introduce a unit that was meaningful, relevant, and something students could be proud to share. She connected with Kate Jadis, Land-Based Coordinator, to bring this experience to life.
Students had the chance to learn new steps, share styles they already knew, and support one another throughout the lesson.
Ms. Chip and Mrs. Phiefer are proud of the respect and confidence students showed as they stepped outside their comfort zones.
Stay tuned—Elementary Phys Ed classes will be joining in very soon.

Grade 11 and 12 students at Allison Bernard Memorial High School explored skilled trades pathways with insights from MEBO and Apprenticeship Nova Scotia. Thanks to strong partnerships with the guidance team and career navigators, students are gaining the confidence and tools to build strong futures.

Rita Joe Week was honoured at the end of January, and ESK Immersion School was pleased to welcome a very special guest, Rita Joe’s daughter, Frances Sylliboy.
Frances shared a beautiful display of her mother’s belongings with students, including Rita Joe’s typewriter, her dress, and other cherished items. Students also learned about her many honours, including the Order of Canada, the Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Medal, and her Confederation award.
As part of Rita Joe Week, ESK Immersion student Tanner Francis delivered a powerful reading of I Lost My Talk in Mi’kmaq.
Wela’lin to Frances Sylliboy for sharing her time, stories, and memories with our students, and for helping us honour the lasting impact of Rita Joe’s words, voice, and legacy.
