On June 16th, a mini Mawiomi was held in Yarmouth. The event showcased drumming, dancing, and many different cultural learning opportunities. Students from the local elementary schools attended and took part in different centres such as waltes, Jikmaqn making, atlatl, traditional foods, medicine pouches, storytelling and much more.
The event was coordinated by Melanie Robinson and her team. Youth from the community were also there to help out in any way that was needed, from drumming the opening to being demonstrators for waltes and just being supportive in any way that was asked of them The guest students were very engaged in the learning and loved having the opportunity to play waltes, try new food and use the atlatl. The weather was perfect and the feast was fantastic!
