ILC Projects
The Mi'kmaw students from North Nova High School who completed their Mi'kmaw youth language projects received their Language Warrior medals. They created a language button wall to help their classmates learn Mi'kmaw. They did an amazing job and we are so proud of these young language warriors!
ANTEC
Several members of our team attended the Atlantic Native Teachers Education Conference this month in Elsipogtog, joining Educators and leaders from across the region. They had the opportunity to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, and explore new approaches to Mi'kmaw education which they plan to use in their current programming.

Nova Scotia will be piloting a new math course which will be a first not only for the province but for Canada. The course will be called Statistics and Data Science 12, (SADS12). ABMHS has been chosen as one of the pilot schools for this course. The first part of the professional learning for the pilot, which gathered 10 teachers and math support professionals from across occurred on May 28 and 29 at the EECD in Halifax. Dallas Sharpe from ABMHS was introduced to the overview of the course and spent the second day working with technology and learning to program PYTHON on the Ti-nspire II calculator and collect data using Ti hardware and BBC micro bit. There will be more professional learning to follow and this group of teachers will collaborate as a cohort to help develop this course for the province. One of the goals of the course will be to help smooth the transition for post secondary students when they take stats courses at university.
Student Services
Teachers in Eskasoni took part in a Professional Development opportunity this month. One of the sessions they participated in was Mandt training, which is a trauma informed alternative to Non Violent Crisis Intervention that supports and assists. Last year, we were able to offer train the trainer Mandt training to teachers in our MK schools so this session was led by their own colleagues.
They also had sessions on Understanding Autism across the grade levels which helped educators gain insight in targeted PD for the students they teach. These sessions were broken up by grade levels p-4, 5-8, and 9-12 and were led by Doreen Stevens, Ambrah MacNeil and Catherine Rahey.
Post Secondary
Our PSE team attended some career fairs this spring. They handed out swag and talked about post secondary options with students and community members.
