A new children’s book celebrating the life and story of Phyllis Gould was recently launched through a collaboration between Bobbilee Dennis and Phyllis’ granddaughter, Cassandra Googoo-Toney. Together, they wanted to ensure Phyllis’ story could be shared with Mi’kmaw students through a storybook.
A soft launch was held at We’koqma’q School, with the support of the school’s principals and staff. Members of Phyllis’ family were there to share the story with students, with her grandson Storm Gould reading the English version and granddaughter Cassandra Googoo reading the Mi’kmaw version. Students and guests then gathered for tea and snacks.
Because Phyllis was originally from Waqmitkuk, Cassandra also visited the Waqmitkuk school to share the book with the entire school, reading both the English and Mi’kmaw versions.
The book will soon be delivered to all MK schools, giving students across the province an opportunity to learn about and connect with Phyllis’ story.
