50+ students sing in 4 languages in the spirit of reconciliation

Story submitted by Carter Chaisson

On behalf of Allison Bernard Memorial High School in Eskasoni, First Nation, Nova Scotia, I’m excited to share with you our brand new song and video – Ancient and Forever.

Ancient and Forever is a song by Nova Scotian musical artist, JP Cormier, written as a celebration of First Nation culture and perseverance here on Unama’ki, (Cape Breton Island). Early in the school year myself and fellow teacher, Nicole Deveau, (NDA/Raveston School of Music, Cheticamp, NS) set out to cover this special and important song with students and fellow teachers from across Cape Breton. Some special guest Cape Breton musical artists joined us for the ride as well. After 5 months of work Ancient and Forever was released on Nova Scotia Heritage Day.

I should also mention that Ancient and Forever is very much a “quarantune” and was recorded and filmed following the strictest of COVID measures.
