Over Thanksgiving weekend, approximately 15 cooks from MK schools gathered for Tpitknewey, a special food gathering celebrating traditional knowledge, local foods and the important role food plays in bringing people together.
Led by two chefs, participants prepared cranberry medicine, tea, cranberry sauce and a turkey dinner using locally sourced ingredients from the Millbrook Food Hub. The gathering offered an opportunity to learn about preparing turkey, the importance of cranberry medicine, and the value of working together to prepare and process food.
Everyone worked together throughout the event, with enough food prepared for participants to take home to their families or share with others. Each cook also left with gifts to bring back to their schools.
Tpitknewey was a wonderful opportunity to share knowledge, celebrate local foods and strengthen connections among the people who nourish MK students every day.
