Wagmatcook School was filled with pride as it hosted a special mini Mawiomi this month, bringing together students, staff, and community to celebrate Mi’kmaw culture. The event focused on students in grades K3 to 3, who proudly showcased their new ribbon skirts and shirts made by Mailey Pierro.
The students from across all grade levels participated in cultural teachings throughout the day, learning about the sacred meaning of the feather, the importance of respecting nature, and the powerful role of song and dance in Mi’kmaw life.
With dancing, drumming, and a tasting feast, the mini Mawiomi created lasting memories and cultural pride among the youngest members of the school. It was a beautiful reminder that tradition starts early and grows with each generation.
