What is your name, what school do you attend, and what community are you from?
August Berk, We’koqma’q Mi’kmaw School, We’koqma’q.
What clubs, teams, or groups are you involved in at school, and after-school?
I am not involved in sport, I am more involved in creative activities like drawing or cartooning and I love making digital music.
What’s your favourite subject in school?
I like sciences best as they are concrete and easy to understand.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?
I like cities, we just returned from Paris and I like the way cities are busy and have lots of different people.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to play games, work on my computer, or be in my room. Camping has also been a big part of my life.
What are your plans for when you graduate, and why?
I am going to take a year off school and research and find what I really want to do, also work.
What do you see yourself doing ten years from now?
I would like to have my own place, be independent and have a career.
Do you have a role model? If so, who? And why?
I think my role model is my Mom, she has taught me not to give up, she has helped me whenever I needed it and she works hard not only for her job but her family.
What is your best memory from your high school years?
I think grade 11 was my best year in school. I felt included and successful. I also won the MK Mikmaw Language award that year and this was an important accomplishment as I live in a non-speaking home.
What is the best thing about your school?
I think our school is really good at helping people and making them feel safe.
Who has made an impact on you?
My family has had the biggest impact on me growing up they have been with me every step of the way.
