What is your name, what school do you attend, and what community are you from?
My name is Jada Kaizer. I attend Forest Heights Community School, I am a member of Wasoqopa’q First Nations, my Community is Gold River.
What's your favourite subject in school?
My favourite subject in school is English because it allows me to express myself and share my ideas.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be, and why?
If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to Rome. I would love to see the beautiful views,try new foods, and explore all the amazing places the city has to offer.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time, I enjoy beading, spending time with my friends and family, and participating in community activities.
What are your plans for when you graduate, and why?
After I graduate, I’m going to attend NSCC and take the Social Services program. I want to work in a field where I can support and help people in my community and hopefully make a positive impact in their lives.
What do you see yourself doing ten years from now?
Ten years from now, I see myself working in the Social Services field, helping people in my community and making a positive difference in their lives. I also hope to continue learning and growing in my career.
Do you have a role model? If so, who? And why?
My role model is my mom, Jenny Kaizer. She is one of the strongest and most hardworking people I know. No matter what challenges come her way, she always keeps going and puts herfamily first. I look up to her because she is caring, supportive, and always encourages me to do my best.
What is your best memory from your high school years?
One of my best memories from high school was helping my Student Support Worker, SheilaPorter, with the Truth and Reconciliation Day presentation. It took a lot of courage for me to get up and speak in front of my whole school, but I did it with pride. I’m very grateful that I had the opportunity to be a part of something meaningful, and it’s a memory I’ll always be proud of.
What is the best thing about your school?
The best thing about my school is the teachers and principals. They are always willing to go above and beyond for their students and help them succeed.
Who has made an impact on you?
Someone who has made a big impact on me is Kolby Bernard. As a social worker herself, she has always been someone people can go to and talk to about anything. She is one of the most caring and helpful people I know, and she is always willing to do whatever she can to support others. Kolby has always taken the time to sit down and talk with me, as well as answer my questions about the Social Services field. She has always offered guidance whenever I needed it. She is not only an amazing person, but also an amazing mom. Her kindness, dedication, and willingness to help others inspire me, and I strive to be just like her.
Is there something you'd like to see in your school or community that isn't there now?
I would like to see more Mi’kmaq language classes in school and also in the community. I think it’s important to keep our language going and give more people the opportunity to learn and connect with their culture.
Do you have any words of advice, a personal favourite quote, or a thank-you?
I would like to thank all those who have helped me get to where I am today. I am very grateful for all of the support, guidance, and encouragement I have received along the way.
