ABMHS in Eskasoni was alive with celebration on November 26 as students came together from across the province for the Language and Culture Showcase. The event highlighted the spirit of Mi’kmaw culture through song, dance, art, and tradition.
Students opened the showcase with powerful drumming that echoed throughout the gym, setting the tone for a day rooted in connection and culture. Youth took to the stage to share heartfelt speeches in Mi’kmaw, dancers showcased a variety of dance styles, including a lively Kojua, while student artwork ranging from beadwork to drawings, was displayed proudly. The event also featured friendly games of waltes, giving students and guests a chance to enjoy one of the oldest Mi’kmaw traditions.
The showcase is always such a beautiful reminder of the importance of language, culture, and community. Through events like this, MK continues to inspire students to embrace who they are and carry Mi’kmaw teachings forward. demonstrating their growing confidence and commitment to language revitalization.
