On April 11 & 12, Early Childhood Educators from across Mi’kma’ki gathered for the Mawitaik Wjit Knijannaq Early Childhood Education Conference — a vibrant, inspiring event filled with connection, learning, and culture.
Participants had the opportunity to network with peers, exchange ideas, and attend engaging presentations on topics such as language nests, updated daycare standards, and holistic approaches to Mi’kmaw early education. The sessions sparked meaningful discussions on how to strengthen cultural learning in the earliest years.
The evenings were just as enriching, with hands-on craft activities that brought everyone together in a spirit of creativity and fun. The event was facilitated by the always-energetic Mooselegs, whose humor and charisma kept spirits high and laughter flowing throughout the conference.
This gathering celebrated not just education, but community, identity, and the powerful role of early childhood educators in nurturing the next generation of Mi’kmaq learners.
