Mi’kmaw Language Day was celebrated in a new and exciting way this year with MK’s first-ever live talk show, streamed on YouTube for viewers across the province and beyond. The event brought together speakers and guests to share conversations about the importance of preserving and revitalizing the Mi’kmaw language.
Throughout the talk show, participants discussed topics including the traditional game of Waltes, MK programming that supports language learning, and personal journeys with the language. A special highlight was welcoming Vayla Denny, a young fluent speaker from Eskasoni, who joined the discussion and inspired viewers with her knowledge and confidence in speaking Mi’kmaw.
The event also recognized dedicated language learners who continue to work hard to strengthen their connection to the language. Viewers had the opportunity to hear personal stories, and learn from shared experiences, during the live broadcast, which made the event so meaningful.
