Exploring Future Pathways: Mi’kmaw Kina'matnewey hosts student Career Fair

March 9, 2026

Mi’kmaw students from across the province gathered in Dartmouth from February 22–24 for an engaging Career Fair designed to help Grade 11 and 12 students explore future education and career opportunities. Students were bussed in from their home communities and spent the weekend learning, connecting, and discovering what pathways may lie ahead after high school.

The gathering began with a cultural evening where students could take part in hands-on activities and learn from one another. They had the opportunity to make crafts, listen to stories, and even try their hand at making a jikmaqn, creating a welcoming space to connect with culture and community.

Over the next two days, students participated in a variety of informative sessions and visited booths from post-secondary institutions and organizations. Representatives from universities, the Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), and other organizations such as Nova Scotia Power and the RCMP shared information about programs, careers, and opportunities available to students after graduation.

The event also included some time for fun and relaxation. On the second evening, students headed out together to enjoy activities at Activate and a trip to the movies, giving them a chance to unwind and spend time with peers from other Mi’kmaw communities.

The Career Fair was a great opportunity for students to ask questions, build connections, and begin thinking about their futures while being supported by culture, community, and each other.
