First Boys Youth Camp Held in the Highlands

October 27, 2026

MK hosted its first Boys Youth Camp during the first weekend of October at the airstrip in Hunters Mountain. Open to boys in Grades 9–12, the camp offered an opportunity to learn outdoor skills and spend time on the land.

When the boys arrived, they received an orange shirt and toque, backpack, binoculars, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, rain gear, and flashlight. Three teepees were set up for the boys to stay in, and they helped build fires inside to keep warm and dry. Although the first night was rainy, the second day brought beautiful sunshine.

On Friday, the boys settled into camp, and some chaperones took them for drives around the Highlands to look for moose. There was no hunting involved; instead, the boys learned about moose calling and the areas where moose are commonly found. Storytelling around the fire was also a highlight on both evenings.

Saturday brought several learning opportunities, including a firearms safety course, bow-making, target practice with bows and arrows and pellet guns, and the building of a sweat lodge. These activities gave the boys a chance to develop new skills and learn in an outdoor setting.

On Sunday, the boys packed up and headed home after a weekend of learning and spending time together.

MK’s first Boys Youth Camp was a great opportunity for the participants to gain outdoor knowledge and create lasting memories in the Highlands.
