On May 31, Mi’kmaw graduates from across Nova Scotia gathered in Antigonish for a night to remember—the very first Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey Prom. Open to students from all Mi’kmaw communities, the event was a celebration of achievement, culture, and connection.
The day began with students accessing a range of self-care services including hair styling, makeup, nails, and barbering, helping them feel their best for the big night. In the afternoon, students had the option to relax or get active with full access to the fitness centre and pool, or some Virtual Reality Gaming with Soulvaria.
The evening kicked off with a delicious dinner, followed by a dance where students filled the floor doing the Kojua, Cha Cha Slide and more. A crowd favorite was the Plinko prize game, where students had the chance to win major, mega, or epic prizes—adding extra excitement to an already unforgettable event.
The first Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey Prom was such an amazing opportunity for us to honour the hard work of graduates and bring together youth from every corner of our province to celebrate their journey and their future.
