Operational Planning
This month we took some time to review our operational plans from last year and plan for the upcoming year. Our teams worked together to come up with new strategies and created a clear roadmap for achieving our long term goals. We discussed our key priorities and ensured all of our plans align with community needs. We will continue to develop these plans over the coming month and plans will be presented to communities in march at our Strategic Planning Symposium.
Post Secondary
Our Post Secondary Consultant Melissa Reid coordinated a professional development opportunity for adult educators this month. On January 9th, Bob Crane, Numeracy Consultant, gave the educators a wide variety of strategies to draw from when teaching Adult Math learners. The educators really appreciated the opportunity to learn new ways to engage their students.
Melissa also organized a Chain Saw Awareness Program which was offered to adult learners in Sipekne'katik this month. The session was facilitated by Safety Services NS and there was a great turnout of interested participants! Melissa is always looking for ways to support community programming, even if they are outside of classroom-based learning environments. If you have any ideas that you would like to offer in your communities, please feel free to reach out to Melissa - melissa@kinu.ca.
The MK ECE team provided Ribbon Skirts/Vest kits to Day Care’s, Head Starts and Kindergarten’s in our communities in the Fall. Check out the beautiful ribbon skirts/vests that were made for some of our day cares!
Elementary Mathematics
Our Elementary Numeracy Consultant created a math page for teacher where you can find lots of resources to help you with math whether you are at home or at school. You can find links to online games, recommended apps, videos, online tools, Aliet resrouces, assessment, Padlet, videos and more!
