March 2022 Academic Services Update

April 1, 2022

Math

March has been a very good and very busy Month for elementary numeracy. First off, Our Consultant Kyla Bernard wanted to send out a huge thank you to Danny Paul and Chad Denny for making Waltes sets for school/classrooms.  She was able to deliver some sets to Paqtnkek, We'koqma'q, Wagmatcook, Annapolis, and is hoping to get to other communities in the very near future.  Teachers also received access to videos of Waltes with demonstrations on how it's played.

Twelve of our teachers completed 12 hours of professional development with Graham Fletcher which included was 6 modules on foundations of numerical reasoning K-2. All teachers received a certificate of completion.  Kyla has really been working on finding creative and innovative ways to have professional development whether that is done in-person, self-pace or virtual.  She often meets with teachers as well through google meet for individual support and wants to thank all teachers who take the time to participate in virtual sessions.

Sprig math has been having regular bi-weekly meetings for the development of math games for the App development.  So many great activities have been developed and she is looking forward to sharing this in the future.

Wellness

As Educators, we have been faced with many challenges. Our goal at MK is to support, educate, and provide healthy and safe spaces for our students, teachers and communities. Our teachers are at the forefront and deserve acknowledgement for their efforts throughout this pandemic. Our Wellness Consultant Rebecca Scirocco wanted to encourage our teachers to engage in self-care so she provided everyone with wellness boxes. They were very much appreciated!
