The communities that make up Wasoqopa’q First Nation had many wonderful events this month.
The first event they held was a Language Gathering- Titled: Nepisultimk L’nui’sultimk- Healing through our Language. This event took place in Dartmouth NS on March 28th, with one full day of language and cultural sharing. It was funded through ILC Funding and organized by the Wasoqopa’q First Nation Mi’kmaw Language and Culture Committee. This event was open to all Wasoqop’aq First Nation community members and their families.
A separate event was held on March 31 in Gold River and organized by Michelle Roy who is the Mi'kmaw Language and culture coordinator for WFN. This event was held to celebrate all the language warriors that participated in the language nest program, and it was open to all community members & WFN Band members. This program has been very successful, and they look forward to the continuation of this project in the future.
Wasoqopa'q also celebrated the grand opening of the Wasoqopa’q Kina'mastui Centre in Milton this month. This centre will be a community hub where they can host bingo, paint nights, and have access to computers and resources. They have games and books to borrow and will host workshops such as job searches and resume building.
