Statement of work

Mi’kmaw Kina’matnewey (MK) is seeking quotes from writers and/or editors to work with Treaty Education Nova Scotia (TENS) to develop a magazine – in print and electronic form- centered around the saying “We are all Treaty people”. TreatyEducation is focused on creating opportunities to learn about the Mi'kmaq, their inherent Aboriginal and Treaty rights, and our shared history. It promotes an understanding of the Peace and Friendship Treaties, our Treaty relationship and reconciliation.

A final draft of the magazine document will be ready no later than October 21, 2022.

MK encourages all candidates meeting the criteria and/or scope of work expressed through this proposal to apply. All candidates will receive a response. Proposals received by 4:30 p.m. AST on April 14, 2022, will receive full consideration. Please submit completed applications to Hope Metallic (hope@kinu.ca) and copyJacqueline Prosper (Jacqueline@kinu.ca).

It is expected that one writer/editor (individual or team) will be selected as a result of theRFQ, although MK is not under obligation to award a contract as a result of the selection process. Based on the proposals received, the selection committee will select a writer/editor who adheres to the criteria below. The writer/editor of our choosing will be contacted promptly.

Project Overview

Echoing the adage“We are all Treaty people”, TENS is a partnership between MK, the Province ofNova Scotia, and Millbrook First Nation. The work is focused on creating opportunities to learn about who the Mi’kmaq are, historically and today; What are Treaties and why they are important; What happened to the Treaty relationship; and how do we reconcile our shared history to ensure justice and equity?

The MOU identifies three areas of educational focus: public schools, provincial public servants ,and the general public. Continuing to build an understanding of historical and contemporary Mi’kmaq context across Nova Scotia is a critical ongoing step as we continue to build stronger relationships and work towards reconciliation.
