The Cape Breton Highlands was the location of our first Educators Cultural Camp called MINUA'TUEK TA'N I'TL'LTIMKIP - Bringing Back the Mi’kmaq Way. For five full days from August 2nd to August 6th, 2022, educators from our MK and Provincial schools gathered at the airstrip on Hunter's Mountain to take part in the camp.
The camp focussed on Traditional Mi’kmaq Knowledge including language, harvesting, music, dance, art and traditional teachings. The educators really enjoyed the camp and we are planning to host a camp again next year.
As with many of our activities, camps such as these wouldn't be possible without the support of our many partners including the Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq, Unama’ki Institute of Natural Resources, Mi'kmaq Rights Initiative, Exploring the Bras D'or, and Treaty Education Nova Scotia.
