NAIG Planning

A virtual Coaches/Mission Staff meeting was held earlier this month. It had been originally scheduled to take place in September but because of the hurricane and loss of power for many, it had to be postponed. The session included introduction of mission staff and team assignments, topics such as lines of communication, required documents and courses for coaches and staff, discussion on athlete eligibility and fundraising, and some important upcoming dates. There will be another session with coaches/mission staff during the Sport Summit in November.

Sport event schedule

Our Phys-ed teachers had an online PD session this month and as part of that session, they planned the sports event schedule for the year. We are all so excited to be able to gather together again!

Early Childhood Education

The ECE Program had two Professional Development Sessions in October:

  • Speech & Language in the Early Years with Krista Wardrope - October 4, 2022
  • Trauma in the Early Years by Katelynn Kuymes - October 26, 2022

They were both very well attended and there are upcoming sessions planned for the future.

Miranda Bernard, ECE Consultant now has a seat at the engagement table with Minister Becky Druham, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development of Nova Scotia. The minister is working with many different partners across the province and Miranda's first meeting with the table took place on October 22.

The ECE team has worked with communities to develop a new project called Elder Engagements in Early Learning Centres Daycare/Kindergarten/Head Start.

Paqtnkek Pre-school had Harold Paul come in to read a story, and have discussion with the Early Years. Harold read the story "Trudy's Healing Stone". After the story and discussion about the book, the children all went outside to find their own Healing Stone.
