Fourteen new Language Coordinator positions have been created across Nova Scotia to help advance the revitalization of the Mi’kmaw language through the Mi’kmaw Language Strategy. This important step has been made possible through the support of the Office of L’nu Affairs and the Province of Nova Scotia, whose commitment to upholding Indigenous language legislation continues to guide this work.
Grounded in collaboration, the Mi’kmaw Language Strategy reflects a shared vision: to increase resources, opportunities, and access so that all people in Mi’kma’ki are empowered to learn and speak Mi’kmaw. A key theme of this work is the principle of Mawikwayk – Together we are strong.
The Language Coordinators attend monthly meetings, hosted by MK, to discuss ongoing projects, create and share resources and support each other throughout the year. For enquiries, please contact Susy@kinu.ca
